Businesses and organisations across Brighton & Hove will be generating 50 new apprenticeship vacancies in 5 days to mark National Apprenticeship Week (10-14 February).
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy in the UK.
We’ve launched the 50 Apprenticeships in 5 Days initiative to raise the profile of apprenticeship opportunities in Brighton & Hove and highlight the benefits they offer employers and employees alike.
Apprenticeships help employees upskill and gain qualifications from level 2 to level 7 (Masters) while earning a wage and building a solid career foundation. They also allow businesses to fill skills gaps, increase productivity and reduce staff turnover.
The council and our partners will be supporting this campaign by recruiting or pledging to hire 50 apprentices during National Apprenticeship Week.
The following organisations have committed to joining us in the 50 Apprenticeships in 5 Days initiative:
If you’re an employer and would like to join the campaign, email apprenticeships@brighton-hove.gov.uk to find out how you can get involved.
Councillor Emma Daniel, Cabinet member for Children, Families and Youth Services, said: “I’m delighted that so many enthusiastic employers are joining our 50 Apprenticeships in 5 Days initiative this National Apprenticeship Week.
“Apprenticeships are an asset to businesses, offering employers the opportunity to support and retain staff, fill skills gaps with talented local candidates, and increase staff productivity while meeting the business’s needs.
“For employees, an apprenticeship is a fantastic way to learn while you earn, to develop life skills and to gain hands-on experience in your chosen career.
“As part of our commitment to making apprenticeships a reality in Brighton & Hove, last year we launched the Business Pre-Employment Forum to help businesses offer more apprenticeships, work experience placements and internships in the city.
“If you’re an employer and would like to find out more, follow the Business Pre-Employment Forum’s Eventbrite page for details of the group’s future meetings.”
Alison Burstow, Head of People at Shoreham Port, said "We're proud to support this campaign at Shoreham Port and champion apprenticeships as a valuable route into skilled employment. As trusted custodians, we nurture skills and create good-quality local employment opportunities, investing in both our workforce and community.
“As part of our ongoing commitment, we plan to recruit at least 5 apprentices this spring, who will thrive under colleague mentorship, blending hands-on experience with formal education."
Joe Jones, a level 2 carpentry and joinery apprentice with Chichester College Group and employed by the council, said: "I 100% recommend an apprenticeship.
“If you're seriously interested in doing something, whether it be carpentry, bricklaying or plumbing, I'd say just do it. Once you start, any worries you have all gets washed away. The support network you get just makes life 10 times easier.
“And not only do you get the support from the people in the college, you've also got the support from your colleagues and you can support them. You can say 'this is what I learned' and you can help them too."
An apprenticeship could be a good choice if you enjoy a practical, hands-on style of learning. Find out if an apprenticeship is right for you on the Amazing Apprenticeships website.
