Expanding our Electric Vehicle charging network – give us your views
We’re asking people across Brighton & Hove to help shape the future of electric vehicle (EV) travel in the city.
A consultation has been launched this week, asking people for their views on electric vehicle use and how we should be extending our EV infrastructure over the next 15 years.
Whether you’re already an EV owner, you’re thinking of buying one, or you have views on the future of electric vehicles in the city, we want to hear from you.
The consultation is open until Sunday 10 August.

Expanding our EV network
Supported by £2.8 million from the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, more than 7,000 new EV chargepoints are set to be installed across the city between now and 2040.
They’ll include:
- 6,000+ lamppost chargepoints (up to 8Kw)
- 1,000 fast chargepoints (between 8Kw and 50Kw)
- 200+ rapid and ultra rapid chargepoints (50Kw and above)
- 2 flagship ultra rapid EV hubs
1650 of those new chargepoints will come in the next three years, adding to our existing network of 500.

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said: “With more than 7,000 new chargepoints planned for the next 15 years, and the price of EV cars and vans soon expected to become much more affordable, it’s important we listen to residents and businesses.
“Their input is vital in determining how we should be expanding our network while listening to their experiences of EVs is important to support them to make the switch.
“Providing clean, affordable, low-carbon energy transport that’s accessible to all is essential to achieve net zero in the city.
“Whether you’re an EV driver considering driving one, you see a barrier to getting an EV or just want to give us your feedback, I’d encourage everyone to complete the survey.”
