Experts on hand at Wish Park outdoor gym opening event
The new outdoor gym at Wish Park will officially open on Saturday 1 February.
Installed by fitness company Kompan, the state-of-the-art 10-piece gym, complete with an 8ft calisthenic unit, provides an inclusive year-round exercise facility and is already proving popular with residents wanting to keep fit.
Residents are invited to join councillors and local fitness trainers for the opening, from 11am.
Members of the Friends of Wish Park worked closely with council officers to help to design the facility, which has been funded by Veolia Environmental Trust Grant Funding and developer contributions.
Health a huge priority
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet member for sport and recreation, said: “Providing opportunities for our residents to stay active and improve their health is a huge priority for us.
“Therefore, I’m delighted to see another outdoor gym now up and running in one of our popular parks. I’d like to thank the Friends of Wish Park, who helped shape the designs, and the Kompan trainers who will be attending the opening and helping everyone make the most of this fantastic new facility.”
Kompan fitness trainers will be attending the event between 11am and 12 noon.
The Wish Park facility is the third outdoor gym to be opened in city parks in the past 12 months as part of the council’s play area renovation programme. Other facilities are available at Preston Park and Victoria Recreation Ground.
The aim is to offer a similar experience to working out in an indoor gym, with equipment ranging from calisthenics units to exercise bikes.
