Recycled games area will be pitch perfect!
Council officers are always on the lookout for opportunities to recycle – and Hangleton residents look set to benefit from one of the biggest yet!
In the next few weeks, the old multi-use games area (MUGA) at Hangleton Park will be removed and replaced with a ‘nearly new’ facility, which was previously installed at Moulsecoomb hub.
Working together
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sport, Recreation and Libraries explained: “Parks officers were aware that the popular multi-use court surface at Hangleton Park had been deteriorating for some time, and was reaching the end of its useful life.
“At the same time, the multi-use games area at Moulsecoomb was due to be removed to make way for a new housing and hub development, which will include a new 3G surface pitch.
“I’m delighted that our sports development and parks team spotted an opportunity to work together to recycle the good as new steel structure with a tarmac court and provide a perfect and sustainable solution for Hangleton.”
Football and basketball
Following installation of the recycled steel structure, new tarmac will be laid and lines painted for football and basketball. Councillor Robins added: “The structure will look like new and provide a cost effective and long-lasting playing surface for many years to come.”
The cost to install and finish the recycled surface is around £58,000 - a fraction of the cost of a brand-new court and surfacing.
Work is due start on 13 October and should take around 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
