Apply for a discretionary payment for removal costs

Use this form to apply for help to pay your rent in advance before moving.

To apply, you need to have:

• a current claim for housing benefit or the Housing Cost Element of Universal Credit
• already found somewhere to move to
• reached an agreement with the prospective landlord or agent

You'll also need to provide:

• your National Insurance (NI) number
• 3 quotes directly from van hire or removal companies - we can't accept any quotes through comparison sites
• proof of the new tenancy, such as a tenancy agreement or a letter from the landlord
• bank statements for all accounts held (including savings and secondary accounts), showing transactions and balances for the last 30 days

The decision will be delayed or refused if:

• there are transactions on your bank statements that indicate other accounts
• you do not provide all the required proofs for all of your accounts
