The extraordinary efforts being made by people across our city is a constant source of inspiration to me, especially as we respond to the unique challenges facing us all at this time.
But I’d like to give a particular ‘shout-out’ to the many local shops and businesses for their amazing efforts in adapting to support their enterprises while also helping others, including some of the most vulnerable.
Community wealth building in action
The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership is among organisations providing information about local farms, markets, wholesalers and shops that can be contacted to provide fresh food delivery services during the period of the pandemic.
They also give some good advice on support available for accessing free and low-cost food services and how you can help them to support vulnerable and isolated people in Brighton & Hove.
In addition, the team at VisitBrighton has compiled a list of businesses including a number of our restaurants that have had to temporarily close their doors in response to the pandemic, but that now offer home delivery services.
They also have details of shops offering products online.
Using local shops is an excellent example of community wealth building in action and I very much hope people will step up their patronage of local shops and businesses once we emerge from this pandemic.
Clap for our Carers
Tonight, as I join the second national Clap for our Carers, to show appreciation for the NHS and care workers striving tirelessly to fight Covid-19, I’ll also be thinking of everyone in our community who is doing their bit to support our city through this difficult time.
