Since the beginning of the year we’ve been taking forward more climate actions through our council services and planning our carbon neutral programme.
In January we reported on progress to make our council homes more energy efficient. Achievements include an extensive programme to fit solar panels and replace inefficient gas boilers with more energy-efficient ways of providing hot water and heating in homes.
Brighton & Hove’s Climate Assembly published its 10 recommendations on transport for the council to incorporate in plans for this and the coming years.
In February, we introduced the ‘Move for Change’ initiative where people can be rewarded for choosing active and sustainable travel. We also joined the new energy group dedicated to putting Greater Brighton at the forefront of a hydrogen fuel revolution to launch Hydrogen Sussex.
Councillors agreed Brighton & Hove’s programme to reduce carbon emissions in March and the council joined the Blueprint to a circular economy project.
We marked World Water Day with an invitation to become a “groundwater guardian” and help care for the precious aquifer that gives us all clean water to drink and enjoy.
Proposals for a housing and community hub in Moulsecoomb will look at the whole life carbon impact of the scheme to ensure carbon reduction sits at the heart of the scheme’s design to make sure its carbon impact is as low as possible.
In April we hosted a conference for school and college leaders focussing on climate and biodiversity.
