Improving the Elder Place Corridor – tell us what you think
We’re asking for the views and ideas of residents and businesses about plans to transform a part of Brighton & Hove in need of improvement.
A consultation is being launched today (Tuesday 24 June) on ideas and early designs for the Elder Place corridor, an area including Elder Place, Providence Place and St Peter’s Street.
We want feedback on proposals and early designs that would make the area more attractive and enjoyable for everyone.
The plans would make it:
- more accessible,
- enable more walking, wheeling, and cycling,
- greener and more climate resilient,
- more sociable and safe, with providing well-lit streets, and space for arts and events and activities,
- connect with the surrounding area and better serve the local community.

We have developer funding to help begin the project, with further improvements planned as and when new funding becomes available.
Jacob Allen, Cabinet member for Public Realm, said: “The Elder Place corridor is an area of the city that we know needs improvement. It’s unwelcoming, poorly lit and attracts graffiti tagging and anti-social behaviour.
“We want to turn it into an area the local community can enjoy with accessible streets, green spaces and areas for the community to enjoy.
“This is a great chance for residents and businesses to give us their ideas, feedback and tell us how they think the area could be improved so that’s its more welcoming and vibrant.
