Processing times for planning applications are currently running with a 5/7 working day delay before we can start validating new applications. To focus resources on validation, we will not be responding to any requests for progress updates until we have had the application for 7 working days. We’re doing our best to process applications as fast as possible, and we appreciate your patience.

Phase 1: Regeneration works

  • Autumn 2019 – public exhibitions held
  • Spring 2020 – design developed and plans submitted
  • Summer 2020 – planning permission granted
  • Autumn 2020 – detailed design completed, tendering begins
  • Spring 2021 – significant works underway, including new sea defences
  • Autumn 2021 – Duke's Mound works completed
  • Spring 2022 – boardwalk completed, with increased vegetated shingle habitat
  • Autumn 2022 – renovation of the Old Reading Room and Temple begins 
  • Spring 2023 – link road and bridge construction
  • Summer 2023 – Phase 1 complete 

Phase 2: Development brief

  • December 2022 – Committee Agreement to Principles of Phase 2 development brief
  • 2023 – produce a brief for developers to be agreed by Policy & Resources Committee  
  • 2023 – consultation with stakeholders and community on the draft brief 
  • December 2023 – take the final developers brief to Policy & Resources Committee for approval 
  • March 2024 – invite development partners to bid to develop the site 
  • October 2024 to February 2025 – appointment of a development partner and key contractual terms finalised and confirmed by Policy & Resources Committee
