How much it costs to be a licenced taxi driver
Find out what fees you need to pay to become a licenced taxi driver.
What you need to pay
The fee for the first application is £150.
This is to cover administration costs only and is not refundable.
When you have successfully completed the first application process you will need to apply for a hackney carriage or private hire driver's licence.
You will also need to pay:
- £71 for the DBS and DVLA check via TaxiPlus
- £16 annual payment on receipt of your DBS certificate to register with the DBS update service
- £49 Knowledge test
- £77 Route test
The language test is included in the initial application fee, but any retakes will be charged.
