Helping Brighton & Hove’s businesses switch to cleaner deliveries
Since 2020 we’ve helped local SMEs and traders adopt eCargo bikes through grants, advice, training and partnerships. This has cut van trips and supports our Carbon Neutral goals.
There is currently no funding for new bike purchases, but our team offers free, impartial advice, rider training, signposting and help to choose the right service or model.

Why use eCargo bikes
Using eCargo bikes helps:
- speed and reliability in cities - up to 60% faster than vans in dense areas reducing congestion and parking problems
- lower running costs compared to vans - see the Energy Saving Trust comparative costs
- health and wellbeing benefits for staff
What we're doing now
We're updating our transport plan for a cleaner, safer, more reliable network by 2035, prioritising active travel and low/zero emission vehicles.
There is currently no live grant for purchasing ecargo bikes. The national Department for Transport scheme administered by Energy Saving Trust has closed. If new funding becomes available, we’ll contact businesses on our waiting list and update this page.
