A destination for sports
Brighton & Hove is already known nationally and internationally as a thriving and progressive city. It's a popular destination for visitors from across the world.
The city hosted some matches for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and was one of the host cities for the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2022. Preparations are also underway as the city is due to host matches in the upcoming Women's Rugby World Cup in the summer of 2025.
We've demonstrated our capability as an international destination for sports. We want to maximise the legacy of that, inclusively supporting grass-roots local sports.
Since the start of the new King Alfred Regeneration project in Autumn 2022, we have met with many grass-roots sports clubs who play an important role in the local community. They represent sports including:
- swimming/aquatics
- roller hockey
- badminton
- 5-a-side football
- rollerderby
- netball
- indoor cricket
- pickleball
We will continue to engage with them throughout the design process and look to accommodate their preferences where practicable. This will include seeking to make the facility better equipped to host events.
