How our tariffs compare to the national average

As of November 2025, ZapMap have published the below national average charging costs. Read the ZapMap report.

  • slow and fast chargepoints - 52p per kWh
  • rapid chargepoints - 76p per kWh

Public charging costs are more expensive than charging at home, as the price covers more than just the electricity itself.

Factors include:

  • public charging incurs the full 20% VAT rate, whereas, domestic electricity is subject to 5% VAT
  • chargepoint operators (CPOs) pay commercial electricity rates, which are often higher than residential rates
  • CPOs have ongoing operational costs to factor in, such as maintenance and customer support centres, which are not applicable to home charging

Numerous organisations and several automotive manufacturers and energy firms are actively campaigning for the removal or reduction of the 20% VAT on public EV charging.
