Who to contact and how we can help if you have any issues with your allotment.
Site representatives
Your site representative is an allotment tenant who volunteers as a communication link between tenants, co-workers and the Allotment Officer. They ensure that a helpful, fair and consistent service is maintained on all sites across the City.
Site representatives also play an active role within Brighton & Hove Allotment Federation.
They can pass information to the council and help with things like:
- security
- water supply
- showing vacant plots
- signing up new tenants and co-workers
- issuing keys
- giving advice, support and encouragement to tenants
- monitoring the need for repairs and rubbish collections
You’ll be given contact information for your site representative in your welcome pack. Please raise any site issues you have with them first.

Associations
Most sites have an association run by volunteer tenants. They have meetings every few months to discuss any issues on their site. You can ask your site representative for more details.
Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation
The Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation (BHAF), is run by volunteer plot holders from across the city. They aim to:
- protect and promote plot holders rights
- support site representatives
- support allotment associations
- provide the Allotment Strategy (PDF 1.1MB)
- maintain the development fund to improve sites
The BHAF holds forum meetings throughout the year that plot holders can attend. For more information go to the Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation website.
