Progress updates
In December 2024 we announced that quarterly events would be run by the main contractor in partnership with the council to keep residents and businesses informed of progress.
Progress update events
Progress update events are a chance for anyone interested in this exciting project to find out what's happening on-site. The sessions are hosted by our delivery partner, Mackley. It's planned to run quarterly updates throughout the project.
Who can attend
Anyone is welcome to attend, although places may be limited by venue capacity. The hope is that everyone who wishes to will get the chance to attend some of the sessions during the project.
We're keen to welcome those who have had a long-running association with the restoration project and those new to it.
Why you should come
Through these sessions, we hope we can grow the support base for the restoration of the Terrace. By attending you hopefully will choose to add your voice to those advocating for the project.
Our existing advocates have achieved so much. The fact the scheme is now on site owes much to their support.
If you cannot attend
We'll be reaching out through many other channels from social media to our webpages, from engagement with schools and businesses to our notice board on site.
Regular updates are provided on our What's Happening Now at Madeira Terrace page.
Our first progress update event
Our first progress update event, on 29 January 2025, was attended by 30 residents and representatives from local businesses and organisations.
As well as hearing presentations from council officers and our contractor Mackley on the plans and the work underway, there was a question and answer session.
View a summary of the meeting and the answers to some of the questions raised.
The Advisory Panel
The panel worked with us from 2019 to 2024 to move the Madeira Terrace restoration plan forward. They played a key role in helping shape and advocating for the project.
The Advisory Panel brought together a mix of community representatives, which included:
- residents
- event organisers
- businesses
- tourism
- conservation of the built and natural environment
Once the project started on site in November 2024 with an agreed design the Advisory Panel stepped down and the Progress Update Events were established.
Seafront Development Board
In January 2025 it was announced that Steve Bassam, The Rt Hon Lord Bassam of Brighton, will chair a new Seafront Development Board to shape the transformation of our seafront.
As a previous leader of the council, a member of the House of Lords and the recent chair of a parliamentary select committee on the Regeneration of Seaside Towns, Steve has the knowledge, experience and understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of being a city by the sea.
A search was launched for a broad representation of residents and businesses to join the board.
