Public Transport
It is important that all new developments offer access to adequate public transport facilities; this includes the capacity for existing services to serve the new demands placed on them by the proposed development.
Contact the council’s public transport team
All proposed developments should contact the city council’s public transport team to discuss the public transport needs of the development and if there is not sufficient public transport provision mitigation measures will need to be discussed.

Accessible pedestrian and transport infrastructure
Best practice on accessible pedestrian and transport infrastructure is outlined in the Department for Transport (DfT) document Inclusive Mobility – A Guide to Best Practice on Access to Pedestrian and Transport Infrastructure.
Undertaking a transport assessment identifies what measures need to be taken to deal with the anticipated transport impacts of a scheme and to improve accessibility and safety for all modes of travel, particularly for alternatives to the car such as walking, cycling and public transport.

Bus shelters
Information on the siting and design of bus shelters is available on page 22 of Brighton & Hove City Council’s Streetscape Design Guidelines (PDF 3.45mb) (2010)
The advice of the council’s Public Transport team should be sought when choosing a shelter. The team can also advise on Real Time Information.
