How our libraries support people with sensory needs and disabilities
We have a home delivery service, so you can get library items delivered to your home. We also have audiobooks and books in large print, and all our libraries are wheelchair accessible.
Accessible services and resources
Brighton & Hove Libraries has signed up to the Age and Dementia Friendly Organisation pledge to provide a welcoming and accessible service to all.
All Brighton & Hove Libraries are wheelchair accessible. Assistance dogs are welcome in our libraries. We offer virtual tours of our libraries to help you familiarise yourself with library layouts and facilities Brighton & Hove libraries virtual tours before you visit.
We provide adjustable desks and accessible keyboards and mice for pcs in all libraries.
For readers who are blind or visually impaired
We offer books in Large Print and audiobooks. If you are blind or visually impaired, ask for an Access library card, which offers a longer loan period and free audiobook loans and reservations.
You can also join our free e-library to obtain e-books, newspapers and magazines which allow you to adjust the font size to suit your needs and e-audiobooks if you prefer to listen:

For readers with sensory needs, learning difficulties or cognitive impairment
We offer dyslexia friendly books for adults and children.
We offer a Bag Books collection of multi-sensory books for people with sensory needs or profound or multiple learning disabilities. Bag Books are available at Jubilee Library and can be used by community groups to deliver storytelling sessions.
If you have learning difficulties, severe memory issues or cognitive impairment which means that you are unable to plan or organise tasks, ask for an Exempt library card, which will support you to use the library.

Home delivery service
We offer a free home delivery service to residents who are unable to get to our libraries owing to health or mobility issues, disability or caring commitments.

Book Box service
We offer a free quarterly Book Box service to residential units and care homes whose residents are unable to get to a library. Collections include Large Print and standard print books, talking books on CD, jigsaw puzzles and reminiscence items.
