Things to see and do
Trees and nature conservation
There's a wide range of native and exotic trees that give the gardens their unique character and provide shelter and tranquillity for wildlife.
Nature conservation is important in the park. The park has:
- designated fenced-off areas
- a sensory garden, with plants specially selected for their touch, fragrance and feel, for the visually impaired and others who may appreciate a quieter space
- a well-stocked wildlife pond with lilies and a biological filter system
Park Rangers work closely with local schools, providing an area that the children have designed.
It's one of 8 parks in the city recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme.
New lighting
We've installed new bat and wildlife-friendly lighting in the park’s central pathway.
The new low-energy shielded lights will come on at dusk and switch off at 8pm to cut out light pollution and protect biodiversity in the park.

The Garden Cafe is open:
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm
- Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm

There are cycle stands by the tennis courts and outside the Garden Café, and a number of regular and frequent bus services pass nearby. Find out more about local bus services.
Some of the garden accessed from Furze Hill and the eastern end of Nizells Road is laid out on a steep gradient, and these areas would not be accessible to people with mobility issues without assistance.
Areas of the park accessed from Somerhill Road and the western end of Nizells Road are accessible.
Alternative ramps are provided where the pathways feature steps.
The café area in the park is accessible, as is the tennis court with the double gates.
We plan to make some more improvements to the park's accessibility in due course.
