About the community hub

One major proposal for the Moulsecoomb housing and community hub is the creation of a new community building to improve the services and facilities available for residents of Moulsecoomb and Bevendean.

Services and facilities proposed to be in the hub include:

  • a GP Surgery and additional health services
  • a pharmacy
  • Moulsecoomb Library
  • youth services (currently delivered from the 67 Centre)
  • adult learning
  • hireable community spaces
  • a community café

Having these organisations based in the same building will enable them to work better together, and give residents a single place to access several services under one roof. Also in the case of the 67 Centre, it frees up a key site for the development of much-needed new homes.

Consultation with residents

We ran a major consultation with residents called Planning for Real early in 2020, the results of which can be seen in the Planning for Real section of this page. Through conversations at the Planning for Real sessions we heard that both accessibility and visibility of the building were key things to consider.

This has influenced one of the major changes to plans presented at these sessions. The location of the hub is now proposed to be much more central to the new housing development. Bringing it closer to Moulsecoomb Children’s Centre and giving multiple access routes through outdoor landscaped areas.

The plans are considered proposals at the moment as there are still a number of stages to go through, including planning consent.
