About our beach chalets
Beach chalets are located in five places along the coast in Brighton & Hove.
- Hove
- Madeira Drive
- Ovingdean
- Rottingdean
- Saltdean
Most of the chalets are of brick construction and there is access to a water standpipe at each location. Electricity and water are provided within the Hove chalets.
There are 14 new composite zero-maintenance chalets on Saltdean Undercliff. Electricity is provided within these chalets.
The chalets are owned by the council and let by way of a licence agreement. Tenants are responsible for payment of national non-domestic rates. You must be a Brighton & Hove resident to rent a beach chalet.

Beach chalet fees
The licence agreement is for a fixed 5 year period. The Licence Fee is reviewed annually on 1 April.
Beach chalet charges for 2026 to 2027 are listed below and include VAT.
- Hove - £1,837.50
- Madeira Drive - £1,265.80
- Ovingdean - £1,200.80
- Rottingdean - £1,074.60
- Saltdean East (old) - £1,074.60
- Saltdean West (new) - £2,121.80
