Further information about dedicating a tree
Where you can dedicate a tree
We have a list of parks for donation planting that is available on request. The size of the park will impact which trees are available.
We also have two donation woodlands, one in the Vale / Barhill avenue open space and one in Rottingdean recreation ground
Cost and sourcing of trees
The donation amount to dedicate a tree is £720.
This cost includes the tree itself, planting undertaken by council staff, and 3 years of ongoing maintenance such as watering, staking, and repairs.
If the tree doesn’t take within its first year, we will replace it for free. If the tree fails after two years, BHCC can charge the cost for another donation as replacement. After 3 years, we have no obligations for maintenance of the tree.
The tree doesn’t officially become property of the donator but is cared for on their behalf by the council.
We source the trees from our own suppliers due to biosecurity measures. The cost can change each year subject to prices from suppliers and cost of officer time.
Ashes and plaques
We kindly ask for no plaques or ashes with your tree.
Plaques are bad for the tree itself, and ashes can change the soil composition and harm the local environment.
