Apply for a parking suspension
Reserve a parking bay and suspend the normal parking restrictions. Parking suspensions are for things like moving house or placing a skip.
If you've requested a parking suspension make sure you check your junk email or spam folders for any emails from BrightonParkingSuspensions@nslservices.co.uk.
When you can suspend a parking bay
You can suspend a parking bay for:
- moving house
- a skip
- utility works, like water or gas works
- special events, like a marathon or Pride event
- photo shoots or filming
- a wedding or funeral car
We cannot give you a parking suspension on yellow lines or in unrestricted parking areas.
We cannot suspend any loading bays on red routes unless it is for critical works. If you need to carry out any form of works in a red route area, please contact us using the “Parking bay: Suspension enquiries” option.
We do not suspend parking bays on Bank Holidays.
We cannot suspend taxi ranks in the same way as parking bays because they need a temporary traffic regulation order. If you need to suspend a taxi rank, send an email to permit.admin@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
We cannot suspend bays in car parks.
We cannot carry out every suspension request because of events in the city. In this case, we'll let you know and tell you the next available date.

When to apply
We need 7 full working days' notice for standard applications and 3 full working days' notice for skip suspensions.
We must receive your suspension application by 2pm, otherwise, your application will be dated as from the next working day.
If you need to arrange an urgent suspension outside of the above notice periods, we may be able to arrange this. However, you'll need to pay an additional £20 on top of the suspension application costs.
For long-term and large-scale (30 parking bays or more in one location) suspensions, we’ll need 10 weeks' notice.
Bay suspension costs
You'll need to pay an administration fee for your application. The fee is £38, or £19 if you're a resident.
All costs in the table are for one 5.5m long bay.

You'll need to pay a £32 fee if you need to:
- change any details on your application after your application has been processed
- make any changes to the date, location, or number of bays 4 days before the suspension start day
- want to cancel your request after the sign has been placed next to your chosen bay
If you don’t need a suspension any more, please let us know and you may be able to get a full or partial refund.
Unless instructed otherwise on your application, the standard suspension length will be from 6am on the first day of the suspension to 11.59pm on the final day of the suspension.
What to do if someone has parked in your suspended bay
Our vehicle relocation service runs until 1pm. If parking enforcement is required, phone 03456 035 469 and choose option 2. We're unable to guarantee vehicles will be relocated.
