Where we'll do the weed treatment
Find out how we decide which areas to treat, which areas are excluded, and what residents can do to keep their streets clear.
How areas are selected
Treatment is applied only to visible vegetation on hard surfaces. Decisions are based on:
- street cleansing operations
- the severity of weed growth
We're currently updating our weed management map for 2026, and you'll be able to see which roads we're treating across the city soon.
Exclusions
Treatment is not applied to roads that:
- receive daily barrow cleansing
- present no accessibility or safety risk
- show no infrastructure damage from weeds
Treatment is also excluded from:
- tree bases, grass verges and non‑hard surfaced areas
- parks, gardens, green spaces, community gardens and orchards
- residential gardens and driveways
- basal tree sprouts
- small wildflowers away from footways and posing no hazard
Streets maintained by residents or community groups usually require little or no treatment. The council’s Tidy Up Team can provide support.
What residents can do
Residents and community groups are encouraged to clear weeds to reduce the need for treatment. If weeds are removed, contractors will not apply treatment.
The Tidy Up Team can provide tools, sacks and waste collection. Residents can apply using the volunteer form.
