Housing: Who does what to keep you safe
The Main Safety Person (known as the Principle Accountable Person listed in Appendix 3):
- makes sure we follow all safety rules
- makes sure we do everything we should to keep you safe
What we will do
- Follow all the rules about building and fire safety.
2. Check our tall buildings for fire risks
We do this often.
We fix any problems we find.
3. Keep our safety plans up to date:
We look at them often to make sure they're still good.
4. Check these things are safe and working well:
- Fire safety
- Gas
- Electricity
- Asbestos
- Water
- Lifts
We will tell you how we're doing with these checks.
5. Answer quickly if you tell us about a safety problem
Residents – What you need to do to help keep everyone safe
Everyone who lives in or visits your building needs to help keep it safe.
Who needs to help
Anyone over 16 who lives in or owns a home in the building
This includes people who:
- Own their flat
- Rent from the council
- Rent from someone else
- Own a flat but don't live there
What you need to do:
Follow the rules in your tenancy agreement or lease
Help keep the building safe from fire and damage
Be careful not to cause safety problems
Don't damage or change things that keep the building safe
Tell us information we need to keep the building safe
Let us in your home when we need to check safety things
If you want to change things in your home:
- Ask us first
- Contact our Customer Service Team to find out how
- Tell us before you start any work
