Who Public Health support
Public Health work with Brighton and Hove state schools, free schools, and academies.
With the help of their partners in education, like the NHS, and voluntary and community groups they aim to improve the health and wellbeing of:
- children and young people
- parents
- carers
- school staff
Public Health use feedback from the school community and school health profiles, to set priorities around:
- healthy diet and nutrition
- physical activity
- drug or alcohol misuse
- smoking
- sexual health
- emotional health and wellbeing
- infectious diseases
- oral health
- sun safety
The work Public Health do complements the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme of study for the city's schools.
They also support early intervention which is available from Front Door for Families.

Safe and Well at School Survey
The Safe and Well School Survey (SAWSS) is an online questionnaire. The survey goes out to all schools, every other year, and children in years 4 to 13 fill them out.
It helps Public Health gather information about:
- health and wellbeing issues
- emotional wellbeing
- diet and exercise
- lifestyle issues like sex, relationships and bullying
