Offer housing for refugees
We need self-contained, affordable properties for refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and other parts of the world.
If you're a landlord who can offer properties on a long-term basis, send an email to Refugee Help.
Contact us to get help if you're a refugee, asylum seeker or vulnerable person from abroad or if you would like to offer help.
Appeal for more Homes for Ukraine hosts
We're looking for more hosts in the city to offer accommodation to Ukrainian guests, as some of our guests are coming to the end of their stays with their current hosts. This is through the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme.
We’d like hosts who can commit to at least 6 months.
Hosts receive £750 per month as a thank you payment. They also get information, advice and support from our Ukrainian Response team.

Council tenants who want to be a host
Council tenants can be hosts under the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme. We’ll do all we can to support you.
There are requirements in your council tenancies you need to be aware of.
If you're a council tenants that wants to be a host, send an email to housing.customerserices@brighton-hove.gov.uk or phone 01273 29 30 30 to make sure we can avoid any potential issues.
Offer simple acts of kindness
This is something we can all do.
You can:
- talk to the parents of the new child at school pickup
- find out more about the different communities in your neighbourhood
- smile at a stranger
- offer to give directions to someone who is looking a bit lost
Report hate crime
If you see people being abused because of who they are, report it.

If you're a council tenant, council leaseholder or tenant of a leaseholder, report anti-social behaviour and hate incidents to Housing Customer Services.

If you're a private rented sector tenant or own your home, report anti-social behaviour and hate incidents to the Community Safety Team.
Report to your housing provider
If you're a housing association tenant, report anti-social behaviour and hate incidents to your housing provider. We cannot intervene in housing association cases.

Become a foster carer or a provider of supported lodgings
Do you have a spare bedroom and childcare experience? We're looking for foster carers for children and young people in Brighton & Hove, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

Foster carers provide a safe, stable, nurturing home where a child or young person can live while their own family is unable to look after them.
Provide opportunities for work experience, apprenticeships and jobs
Refugees bring skills, experience and qualifications, but they often face barriers to finding employment.
If you're an employer you can help refugees by advertising opportunities through some of the organisations listed in Sanctuary on Sea's directory of services. These organisations are in contact with refugees looking for employment.
By advertising with these organisations, you're sending a clear message that refugees are welcome to apply.
