School Travel
Advice for making the school run simpler and safer.
Active travel
Throughout January and February 2025, the School Travel Team are running an active travel campaign.
To take part, you need to choose Active Travel for a majority of your journeys (walking, wheeling, park and stride if necessary)
Then choose from the following options:
- Take a picture on your active journey to school and say why you like travelling actively
- Do an active travel drawing and say why they love active travel
- Write an active travel story showing all their great writing skills.
You can do as many as you like.
Submit your entries to school.travel@brighton-hove.gov.uk.

Our School Travel Team offers support for the journey to and from school to all Brighton Schools. We provide resources, support and advice to help the school community, parents and pupils to make active and sustainable travel choices.
Our aim is to inspire parents, pupils and students to take action to increase active, sustainable travel to and from school across the city.
Benefits of active travel
The benefits of active travel to school include:
- lower air pollution around schools and wider environment
- increased health and fitness for children and parents,
- lower costs for families.
- less impact on the environment and reduced carbon footprint.
- decreased congestion around school sites, therefore increasing children’s safety
Research tells us that pupils who travel actively will arrive brighter and more alert, ready for learning as well as generally happier. Research also shows us children who travel actively to and from school achieve higher academic success.
