Due to the hot weather, some council services may need to change, but the majority of our services are operating as normal. Read our news story for more information.
City cycling skills – adult cycle training courses
How to access cycling training courses for adults.
About the classes
Cycling is a low-cost, convenient and efficient way to travel around the city.
Brighton Bike Hub delivers adult cycle training on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council. Some sessions are funded by the council to help make cycling more accessible to residents.
Courses take place at Preston Park and run every month. Each course is made up of three sessions, held on either:
- Wednesday evenings, or
- Sunday mornings
Who the courses are for
Whether you’re a complete beginner who would like to start cycling or a regular cyclist looking to brush up on advanced skills, Brighton Bike Hub’s instructors will tailor a cycle training session to suit you.
The courses are open to all adults, whatever your experience or background.
Sessions are suitable for:
- complete beginners
- people returning to cycling after a break
- riders who want to improve their skills or confidence
Each session is split into small groups based on ability:
- Beginners will learn in a safe space within the park
- More confident riders will practise skills on quiet local streets
If you want to build confidence, improve your skills, or plan a regular journey (such as travelling to work or school), instructors can support you.
By providing these training courses, we hope more people will choose cycling as their preferred way to travel for journeys around the city.
Cost of the course
Courses are subsidised through funding from Sport England.
- Cost: £10 per session (usually £35 or more)
- Sessions last 2 hours
- Courses must be booked as a block of three sessions
We recommend attending all three sessions to get the most from the course.
Free places are available for people who cannot afford the cost. To find out more, send an email to volunteer@brightonbikehub.org.
About the instructors
All instructors:
- are Enhanced DBS checked
- are Bikeability trained
- teach to the UK national standard for cycle training
They have experience supporting people of all abilities, including those who have never ridden a bike before.
If you would prefer a female or male instructor, or have any questions, send an email to volunteer@brightonbikehub.org
