Abandoned bikes
Find out how to report bikes that have may have been abandoned on the public highway.
We appreciate that it can be frustrating when bikes remain static for a significant amount of time. However, we’ll only investigate a bike reported as being abandoned if it shows clear signs of being abandoned or it is causing an obstruction, hazard or restricting the use of public bike stands.
Beryl Bikes
Beryl is responsible for the collection of any of their Bikes that have been abandoned.
Please report these to Beryl by sending an email to support@beryl.cc.
You’ll need to tell them the bike's ID number and location.
Report a bike that you think has been abandoned
Information we need before we can investigate a report of an abandoned bike
We need the following information to start and carry out any investigations.
- The make and colour of the bike
- The exact location of the bike
- When you first noticed the bike
If you think a bike has been abandoned, please report it to us through our online report form. This provides the information we need to start our investigation and removal process.
To report abandoned bikes at different addresses, please submit a separate report for each bike at each location.
Our process for the removal of abandoned bikes from the public highway
- A council officer will attend and make an assessment.
- If the officer thinks that the bike has been abandoned, they will attach a high visibility notice to it. This gives the owner an opportunity to claim it.
- If there is no response to the notice within 14 days, the bike will be listed for removal by the Environmental Services Team.
- The Environmental Services Team carry out collections for abandoned bikes monthly and have limited capacity to remove large numbers of bikes each time. They aim to remove listed bikes during the next collection after the 14 day notice expires but this is dependent on available capacity and resources.
- Once a bike has been removed it is either destroyed or donated to a local charity
- Report an abandoned vehicle or bike
