Heritage Statements: How has the proposal been designed to conserve the significance of the asset ('mitigation')?
How has the proposal been designed to conserve the significance of the asset ('mitigation')?
This is your opportunity to explain how the proposal has been designed to conserve and/or better reveal the significance of the heritage assets. It should also set out how any harmful impacts have been avoided or minimized, especially if the design has changed in order to achieve this.
Depending on the proposal and type of heritage asset, it may be relevant to include information (including photographs and/or plans and sections) on any or all of the following:
- How the location and extent of the proposal relates to the significance of the asset
- How the materials relate to the heritage asset
- How the proposal has been designed to be sympathetic to the asset
- How potential below ground archaeological remains will be avoided or impacts minimised (such as using raft foundations)
- How potential impacts on historic fabric have been avoided or minimised (such as through changing the location of the proposal to a more altered part of the building)
- How junctions between new and old elements will be addressed
- Any historic features that would be restored or reinstated as part of the proposal (and the specific evidence on which these are based)
