Processing times for planning applications are currently running with a 5/7 working day delay before we can start validating new applications. To focus resources on validation, we will not be responding to any requests for progress updates until we have had the application for 7 working days. Street naming and numbering
How we name and number streets in the city and how you can apply to name a street.
Why street naming and numbering is important
On new developments in the city, the developer is responsible for putting up street name plates that meet our requirements.
Appropriate naming of streets and numbering of buildings forms the basis for identifying a property. This is also essential for emergency and postal services, as well as for the convenience and safety of the general public.
How to apply
You can:
- apply online to register a street name or number as a resident
- apply online to register a new street name or number as a developer or business
- complete an address registration request (printable version) (PDF 98KB)
Street name notices
When a road is being named, we post a legal notice at the start and end of that street. You can also find copies of those notices and location here.
