The data controller for your data
Brighton & Hove City Council is the data controller for purposes of the Data Protection Act (2018) and The General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") and is registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number Z5840053.
Brighton & Hove City Council is committed to protect your personal information. As a data controller, we have a responsibility to make sure you know why and how we collect your personal information in accordance with relevant data protection law.
Why we collect your data
We are collecting your data for the purpose of gathering views and feedback on the provision of childcare in Brighton & Hove and completing a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, a public report to the council's Children, Young People and Skills Committee to inform on how the council is meeting its duty to secure sufficient childcare. We have a lawful basis for processing personal data as a Legal Obligation under the Childcare Act 2006 Section 6 (duty to secure sufficient childcare for working parents) and Section 7 (duty to secure early years provision free of charge in accordance with regulations and associated statutory guidance).
Special Category data may be processed under GDPR Article 9 (2) (g) and the Data Protection Act 2018 Schedule 1, Part 2, paragraph 6, under the legislation noted above.
Who we share your data with
Your information will only be shared with the relevant internal council employees.
How long we hold your data (retention)
We will not keep your data for longer than necessary, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain the data.
Transferring data outside the European Economic Area
We do not transfer your information outside the European Economic Area.

We aim to resolve all complaints about how we handle personal information. You also have the right to make a complaint about data protection to the Information Commissioner's Office.
